We at The Shelby County Children’s Advocacy Center have the privilege of serving as the Shelby County Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) coordinators.
The MDT is made up of:
- The Department of Human Resources
- Law Enforcement
- The District Attorney’s Office
- Medical Professionals
- School System Personnel
The goal of the MDT is to coordinate a collaborative response to child abuse in the Shelby County community. This is accomplished by regular communication, the recording and sharing of forensic interviews and other pertinent information, as well as monthly meetings to review each case and decide on the best course of action. The MDT approach allows pressure to be taken off the children and families, by placing the responsibility of communication and collaboration in the hands of the professionals working the child’s case.
